The Dalmatian seems to have a lively history behind it, albeit a little scarce in the beginnings. A war dog in the area of Dalmatia and Croatia, then he has been a draft dog and shepherd, he is a good hunter and he is most noted for rats and vermin but also a retriever. He is an excellent fire coach follower and fire house mascot. He would keep the horses in check when engines were drawn by horses. He is best known as a coaching dog and will fall into step with a horse like it was natural for him to be there. Now as for their spots, anyone who has watched "101 Dalmatians" knows they do not get their spots until they are over two weeks old!
